Blog Everyday in June

So I recently stumbled across a challenge called Blog Everyday in May.  Now obviously with it being the last day of May, it's pretty impossible for me to take part in.  However, I've since found a version for June (basically it's the one for May with the 31st removed), so this is what I will try.

I'm useless at remembering to do things everyday, so let's see if I manage.

Here are the rules:

1. There really aren't any rules. If you miss a day, you can make it up or skip it. The blog police will not come knocking.

Day 1, Saturday: The story of my life in 250 words or less (or one paragraph... no one will be counting my words... probably)

Day 2, Sunday: Educate others on something I know alot about or are good at. I would take any approach I  like (serious and educational or funny and sarcastic).

Day 3, Monday: Things that make me uncomfortable

Day 4, Tuesday: Favorite quote (from a person, from a book, etc) and why I love it

Day 5, Wednesday: Publicly profess my love and devotion for my favorite person, book or place. What makes it/them great?

Day 6, Thursday:  If I couldn't answer with my job, how would I answer the question, 'what do you do'?

Day 7, Friday: The thing(s) I’m most afraid of

Day 8, Saturday: A piece of advice I have for others. Anything at all.

Day 9, Sunday: A moment in my day (this can be just a photo or both a photo and words)

Day 10, Monday: Most embarrassing moment (s). Spill.

Day 11, Tuesday: Sell myself in 10 words or less

Day 12, Wednesday: What do I miss? (a person, a thing, a place, a time of my life...)

Day 13, Thursday: Issue a public apology. This can be as funny or as serious or as creative as I want it to be.

Day 14, Friday: Ten things that make me really happy

Day 15, Saturday: ‘A Day in my normal life’ (I will include photos from throughout my typical day - this could be "a photo an hour")

Day 16, Sunday: Something difficult about my "lot in life" and how I’m working to overcome it

Day 17, Monday: A favorite photo of myself and why

Day 18, Tuesday: Tell a story from my childhood. I will try to dig deep and try to be descriptive about what I remember and how I felt.

Day 19, Wednesday: Five of my favorite blogs and what I love about them

Day 20, Thursday: Get real. Share something I’m struggling with right now.

Day 21, Friday: A list of links to my favorite posts on my blog.

Day 22, Saturday: Rant about something. Get up on my soapbox and tell the world  how I really feel. (a pet peeve, a current event, a controversial topic, something anyone does that really ticks me off)

Day 23, Sunday: Things I've learned that school won't teach me

Day 24, Monday: My  top 3 worst traits

Day 25, Tuesday: Something someone told me about myself that I'll never forget (good or bad)

Day 26, Wednesday: Something I read online today. I would leave a link and say something about it.

Day 27, Thursday: An Open letter to my readers

Day 28, Friday: Only pictures

Day 29, Saturday : Five songs or pieces of music that speak to me or bring back memories.

Day 30, Sunday:  My reaction to the term: Letting Go

Anyone else fancy the challenge?

Gelly Gradients

So after my nightmare of an exam which was nothing like I'd expected, I went into town to abuse Superdrug's 3 for 2 offer across cosmetics. Obviously I was just going for the nail polish since I'm quite a minimalist when it comes to make up.  Eye make up basically just doesn't agree with my eyes, I even gave my brand new mascara to my mum still in its wrapper since I just can't possibly use it.

So back to nail polish, I really wanted the Greenberry Gelly from the Spring collection and thought since they were more expensive than the others I may as well just buy 3 Gellys. My next plan was then to get all the remaining Gellys from the Spring collection, the pink shimmery Dragon Fruit and pale orange Papaya.

Upon entering the 'big' Superdrug, I noticed that whilst they had the Papaya and Greenberry, there was no Dragon Fruit :(. Looking at the shelf for a while I noticed that they actually had their new Summer collection on sale which took me by surprise since they weren't die out until 5th June which was when I was planning to buy the lovely turquoise Guava.

I still went to look in the smaller store to see if I could get the combination of the 3 I wanted, but there they only had Dragon Fruit and no others. After going back to the big store I bought Guava, Greenberry and Mango. I decided on Mango after comparing the Papaya with Peach Melba which I already own and they were pretty similar. I'm also sure I saw a stray Dragon Fruit in the drawer underneath but was too embarrassed to ask for it!

I wanted to put all 3 on my one hand at once with gradients, however the Mango didn't really blend well with the others (picture at bottom) so I scraped that one and decided on just Greenberry and Guava on my left and Mango and Lychee on my right.

I'm still going into town on Wednesday so if they're selling the confetti ones and they have a new, different offer, I may pick up one of them and Dragon Fruit.

Can I just add once again how much I love Guava and Greenberry? I think they may be my favourite coloured polishes of all time!!

How Much Trust My Do Housemates Deserve?

Now I know I moaned yesterday about my lovely housemates keeping me awake that night, but now they've took it one step further by removing my last pieces of Dominos Pizza which were defrosting on top of the fridge for my tea last night.  I don't know whether they were eaten or thrown in the bin, but that's past the point.  I subsequently posted an angry FaceBook message and hoped that had it been an accident, the person would have owned up and apologised.

Later that night I heard another housemate in the corridor outside my room talking about stolen food. To be honest I thought she was bitching about me and my post since I did hear my name crop up, but no, she too had had food stolen.  3 pots of Muller Rice to be exact when she'd only bought 4 the day before.

This led me to question how must do I actually trust the people I live with?  Should everything be kept under lock and key?

Up until recently, my food cupboard in the kitchen was padlocked basically to protect from drunk people with munchies, but now I've trusted them enough to take it off (to be honest I don't have much worth stealing in there).  I always lock my door when I'm leaving the house for a fair bit of time - going to porter's, laundry, or Costcutter's doesn't count.  I have my laptop, printer, etc to protect.

I know what's happened is really petty for me to complain about, but to have anything stolen no matter how small, would surely upset and annoy anyone?

I have my suspicions over who it was and shared them with Tasha who agrees that it could be highly likely, but I'm not going to come out and ask them considering (if it's one of the 2 out of the 3 I'm suspecting) I hope to be spending a fair bit of time at their house next year so falling out won't be great.

Still on the Lookout

I'm Not a Pink Girl Really

When I was buying all my things for uni, I was insistent I didn't want pink.  It sort of worked, my utensils and everything else for the kitchen were all multicoloured, but then the tea towels came - pink.  My duvet covers were grey or multicoloured, the fitted sheet - pink.  I wanted to buy a rug, the only nice bright colour it came in was, you guessed it, pink.

It wasn't too bad until my new uni friends came to look round my room and said "Oh it's really pink".  I looked round and although I tried to deny it, I could see what they meant.  I had acquired a pink cushion or two, I'd found some really cute bunting that happened to be pink, my pink scarves were hanging up, pink hand towel and my chocolate lab poster with its pink background.

Shameful.

Yesterday I needed to re-do my nails since I'd spent BGT picking off all the glitter and so used all the pinks in my collection to try again at a jelly sandwich (sammich).  Here I've used 2True shade 17, Barry M Ruby Glitter and Barry M Pink Iridescent.

Insomnia is Taking Over My Nights

Ok so maybe not so much insomnia since I still am managing to sleep eventually, but it shouldn't be taking me up to 3 hours before I finally get to sleep surely?  It's only been happening for just over a week but it feels like it's controlling my life by affecting my sleep pattern.

On the days where I don't have exams, fair enough I can just sleep in to try to catch up, but I've even been finding it hard when someone has woken me up at 6 and daylight is streaming from under my blind. However, when I have an exam I need to be up fairly early so I can make myself alert.  On Friday I looked and felt sleep deprived and may as well have been hungover.

Last night I got distracted reading blogs until fairly late, but despite the time, I was then lying in bed for at least 2 hours before I got some shut eye.  I've discovered that my only way of sleeping is to play Candy Crush or Frozen Penguins on my phone until my eyes shut and my phone basically falls out of my hands.

This was working for me last night until my housemates decided to come back at 3am and spend a fair bit of time in the room next door laughing and shrieking as loud as they possibly could.  All I can say is thank god I didn't have an exam today or else I would have been in there to throttle them.  We were planning to be quiet when we go out next week but that's me decided that we will make as much noise as possible just for payback.

My good friend Callie on Twitter suggested that maybe I'm just too stressed.  All I can think of is that my stress about exams in subconscious because I normally spend more time stressing out and hating myself for not revising enough after my exams.  I think there's possibly a mix in of excitement about my little surprise trip playing on my mind too.

Too much yawning

The People I Miss the Most

I go through phases of just sitting and thinking about all the people I miss back home.  I've only been away 5 weeks so far and last term I managed 9 weeks, which was basically a whole term.  It wasn't supposed to be that way but I won't go into detail about that, but I do think the only thing that got me through was a visit from my best friend Emily for my birthday, followed by a visit back to her for a weekend in Nottingham and my amazing friends here at uni to keep me amused.

I phone home or they phone me no more than once a week and we've FaceTimed twice (which is once more than last term).  The only problem is that by the time I come to call and have heard their voices, I've nothing left to say and I just feel stupid.  It's even worse at the moment when I'm trying to hide the fact I'm coming home for a surprise visit sooner than they think so I have to be extra careful what I can and can't say.

However, that itself may have been compromised since I phoned my boss up and asked to come back to work whilst I was home (I'd then be able to get 2 weeks pay out of it and would only need to book one week off while I come back for the Summer ball and to collect my stuff), and the phonecall wasn't what I expected and was confused but I'd had the phone put down on me before I could question any further.  This resulted in me texting a friend asking if she was working that day and whether she could mention my phonecall to my boss incase she thought I'd been someone else ringing.

I'd heard nothing more until I got a text from my dad on Saturday night to say I had a message from work that they'd see me on the 8th.  I now had to fob him off with a story about how I'd phoned and left  message about a reference but it hadn't got through properly and so I'd ring again tomorrow to 'correct them'.  Hopefully my dad believed this and he didn't think my mum had heard the message so I may be in the clear.  I had mentioned about coming home to my dad but it was back in March before any decisions were set in stone so I have no idea what he's thinking at the moment.

So I'm going home the day after my last exam.  This isn't a brilliant idea in the first place since Real Analysis is going to destroy me so we're starting on the booze straight afterwards and going out later that night after lots of pre-drinks.  Check back soon to see the result of this...

Poppy, Poppy, Poppy. I miss her to bits. Apparently she goes mental whenever I phone because she can hear me on the other end and the first few nights I was away she used to go jumping on my bed, despite hating it when I was at home.  I just can't wait to be home to get lots of Poppy cuddles.

I won't be seeing Emily for a while either.  She's really busy with exams even longer after mine and even in the Summer holidays she's going to be spending a lot of time out of the country and we haven't yet organised a London trip or even know if it will go ahead.  Possibly a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach instead?!

Procrastination at its Best

So I'd actually only had a few chips in my previous nails, most of which happened while I was doing them, but I've decided to take it all off and experiment with something different.

I'd decided that since it was the weekend I'd let myself off revision (not that I would have been doing much anyway) and just spend the day relaxing.  Unfortunately I was woken before 7 and had no way of nodding off again, but still had 6 hours to go until I could watch the Monaco Grand Prix.  In the end I resorted to reading for an hour or 2 before drifting off again.

I did my nails whilst watching the race so I could take my time and not get distracted into smudging them.  I've heard about these 'jelly sandwiches' and really wanted to try one, however, after seeing a friend wearing Amethyst Glitter yesterday, that was screaming out to me.  It's not really the chunky glitter you sort of need for this, but my only other one (Ruby Glitter) I used a few days ago.  And I've not many sheer polishes that haven't already got a bit of shimmer to them, so in the end this was the result.

I used Barry M Amethyst Glitter, NYC Oh SoHo Sweet and Barry M all-in-one top and base coat.

Love to all

Holby.tv May Meet 22nd May

I've been a member of h.tv for a fair few years now, but hadn't yet plucked up the courage to go to one of their organised meets and by the time I had circumstances kept me away.

Firstly the Summer Meet in Blackpool - Ironically I'd spent the whole week in working in Blackpool (well Lytham St Annes, but staying in Blackpool), but we left really late Sunday night and so I really didn't feel up to driving the next day (especially since I'd never drove that route on my own before) and hadn't risked buying the train ticket incase I missed it.

Secondly the Autumn Meet in London - By now I'd moved to York so it would have been so much easier for me just going straight down the East Coast line, but alas it wasn't to be. It was still Fresher's week and so on that day in particular it was the Fresher's fair and Live and Loud Concert that night.

Therefore I was determined to make this next one. However, I was a bit downhearted when I realised it was in Cardiff/Barry. Not that I had anything against the place, it just thought it would take too long to get there and back in a day and that I wouldn't be able to afford it.  After researching it, I found it completely possible and do-able even if it did need a 4am wake up due to buses not running until 6am so I needed to walk to the station (which took just under an hour so I could have had longer in bed)

Anyway, the meet was amazing, everyone was so friendly and welcoming since I was the only newbie and the weather was great! (as you'll be able to tell from the pictures!)

We spent the day on the beach down at Barry Island, played on the 2p slots, ate from Gavin and Stacey's favourite chippy, flew a kite and had the most amazing ice cream from Marco's.

We ended up in what I can only describe as the biggest and most eye-catching Weatherspoon's I've ever been in (I think it used to be a theatre) by the station drinking ice cold Koppenbergs. (Bliss!)

All I've left to say is thanks to Bob for organising the meet and to Bob and Kathie for being our drivers.

The first few pictures are mine and the rest are courtesy of Pete so all copyright goes to him :)

I wanted to live in a house up there

Neglected Nails

So yesterday was the day of the dreaded Applied Maths exam which I was pretty sure I'd failed before I even entered the exam room.  By the time I'd got home I was so distressed I needed something to do to cheer me up. I looked down at my nails and saw how neglected they were with the current polish just chipping away.

So here's my attempt at cheering myself up:
I used Barry M Gelly Lychee and Ruby Glitter and their all-in-one base and topcoat

Until the next time

Just a Little Introduction Post

Well Hello there!

I've deciding to start this blog for a fair few reasons:

1. I've been reading and following the blogs of quite a few friends of mine so I thought why not? I could at least give it a try.

2. Upon stumbling over this site, I discovered I was already logged in from a blog I created over 4 years ago (I'm still unsure how this happened since my macbook is new...) But anyway I started reading it and couldn't remember barely anything what I'd been doing 4 years previously so I thought it would be nice to try again for something else for me to look back on in a few years.

Tarra for now
